Interestingly for a pop album, Van Sereno doesn’t sound overproduced. There’s a quirky timing to his music that adds a charming flaw to this album. He wouldn’t win Australian idol, and in fact his slips in and out of tune might fail some tougher karaoke competitions, but he might win your heart. The first track ‘Are you ready’ is quite different from the rest of the album. It's a good, smooth pop-song you can sing along to. It's from the second track onwards that Sereno starts getting experimental, and the limitations to his vocals become apparent. The music is varied and interesting, however, and it's a pity his talents are showcased in this album mellow pop music, which has always been focused on vocal stylings. Sereno is based in NSW and was uncovered by JJJ in 2004. He is a member of the funk band VAMPit, where his song-writing talent is let leash in a more aggressive way.
