This is quite a good compilation to show the growth of Australian hip-hop even though the artists’ listing is familiar from previous years. You still find acts like Koolism and The Herd muscling their way through the CD. Koolism create a garage feel with the well-produced “On Deck”. Look out, however, for some new talent. The Cannibal Tribe provides some harmony and melodic touches to the mix of “Hip Hop Terrorist”. Layla catches attention with the rough, dark-tinged “Maverick”. She is one of the growing numbers of capable female MCs making their mark. Another belligerent effort comes from A-Love that features Eternia on the tight “Movin’”. Other MCs like DJ Selekt and Quro flex their experience and skills. There is sure to be plenty here that will satisfy hip-hop enthusiasts. It also serves as a good introduction for those seeking some new sounds.
