:: Various Artists - Coastal Chill 07Various ArtistsThe next edition in the series, ‘Coastal Chill 07’, compiles the who’s who of folk, blues and roots in this fine compilation set for the upcoming summer. With the likes of Michael Franti, Ben Harper, Claire Bowditch and Tim Finn on the line up it is not a bad little roster of both Australian and international artists ready to help you relax after a hard day at the beach. We open up with Bob Evans’ (aka Kevin Mitchell vocalist/guitarist for Jebediah) ‘Don’t You Think It’s Time?’, the Bob Dylan influences are clearly apparent as he serenades with his guitar and harmonica. An up-and-coming act to watch is Angus & Julia Stone. They present their track ‘Paper Aeroplane’ which has had a fair bit of play around Australia in recent times. The nice deep roots sounds of The Audreys’ track ‘You & Steve McQueen’ with its country influences and violins is a great little number and opens things up for Ben Harper’s ‘Morning Yearning’. Moving in a different direction we have Gotye’s ‘Puzzle With A Piece Missing’ with it’s laid back reggae beats and Michael Franti’s ‘Sweet Little Lies’ in a similar vibe. The raspy voice of Holly Throsby is beautiful in her track ‘Making A Fire’ as are the woodwind instrumentation that back her up. This is a very good compilation album, especially if you don’t listen to a lot of folk/roots. You can now kick back after a day at the beach, have a drink with friends, put this CD on, and enjoy your summer. | ![]() |
