Vassy is another of the young Australians who was discovered through radio station JJJ’s Unearthed process. From Darwin, she has been busy over the past two years in the development towards this highly anticipated debut album. You may remember her earlier single ‘Cover You In Kisses’, which set the path towards this album. ‘My Affection’ had already endured a long journey with the recording process covering seven different Australian and International cities. With various producers having input, a diverse array of styles was forthcoming and they all showcase Vassy’s versatility and confidence. She has the knack of changing vocal motion from R&B to jazz to pop, and she delves deep into her influences in setting a style for this set. ‘Wanna Fly’, another previous single, shows the Latin flavours while other notable tracks are ‘Fight It’, with terrific drum ‘n’ bass tempos running wild for the dance floor, and the title track that showcases Vassy’s smooth grooves. There are a couple of weaker moments that slightly diminishes the album from considerable strength. However, this is an extremely good debut that hopefully ensure a bright future for Vassy to step into her own realm, not being driven too much by her influences, because she is accomplished in her own right.
