This is quite an inspiring group. From Los Angeles comes Warpaint - three young women, Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman and Jenny Lee Lindberg - and this is one of the revelations of 2009. For some listeners, it might be an acquired taste, or actually an acquired time of the day to immerse yourself into these six songs, but there are gorgeous rhythms and tasty guitar lines to provide a devilish sound. The songs aren‘t short (some > six minutes long), but they are simply effective. Add the dreamy, sexy vocals and the package is charismatic and exciting. Listen especially to the track 'Billie Holiday’ which is quite methodically hypnotic and where they‘ve intricately reworked the old classic 'My Guy’. Warpaint deserves much praise for an enterprising set of tracks and no doubt their career is set to blossom.
