This is a surprise because, coming from a worthy last original album, Paul Weller turns his discography full circle with an album of cover versions. He's obviously picked out some favourties and developed funky and soulful renditions. But it might say something about his creative instincts of late as to why he would indulge in this effort. The songs to listen for are “Close To You” (The Carpenters), “All Along The Watchtower” (Jimi Hendrix), and “One Way Road” (an obscure Oasis track). This will be warm and fuzzy for some, but his true fans will have to wait longer for new material.
