:: Wendy Matthews - Café NaturaleWendy MatthewsGreat to see Wendy back in action. She is one of the most delightful and experienced singers in Australia with a great career stretching back to the late 1980s. She’s built many fans over several enjoyable CD releases and there is a chance now that she will draw new fans based on this pleasantly surprising new album. Surprising in that she has decided to reinvent some of her favourite work by other artists and gives the listener her personal scope and interpretation. The jazzy opening track “All I Need”, originally recorded by Air, sets about this easy listening affair that ensues. I hadn’t been aware of this excursion by Wendy but there is sheer talent on show on old favourites for many people. U2’s “One” is one the band’s mellower and poignant songs from many years ago. Wendy stamps her own mark by a beautiful delivery of it here. Likewise, with tracks like Massive Attack’s “Protection”, and the song “Short Note”, written by Matt Moffitt, a fine Australian songwriter of the past. Wendy Matthews is back to enrich you with feeling and serenity. |
