:: White Denim - FitsWhite DenimThis has to be one of the hardest albums I have ever had to review. I’ll be honest and blunt. While I enjoyed listening to White Denim’s new album ‘Fits’ I know there is also a lot of people out there that will be completely confused and find it hard to ‘get into’. See White Denim fuse together a mass of genres not just to create an album, but even just to create a song. While most people say White Denim is what happens when the blues and punk collide… it goes a lot deeper than that. Personally I found ‘Fits’ to be a good album but I do have to admit that the tracks on it are very hit and miss. Some you will want to listen to ten times over, others will be ones that you skip whenever you play the album. The opening track, ‘Radio Milk How Can You Stand It’ is what White Denim are all about; a mash of genres all colliding together at one intersection while ‘All Consolation’ is the biggest mix of guitars I have ever heard. ‘Say What You Want’ captures the sounds of The White Stripes while ‘El Hard Attack DCWYW’ can only be described a blues/hip-hop explosion. ‘I Start To Run’ once again mixes the genres but is as catchy as all hell while ‘Sex Prayer’ is a funk driven instrumental track. ‘Mirrored And Reversed’ sees the use of old style rock n’ roll while ‘Painted Yourself’ sees White Denim once again visiting the blues, as does ‘Everybody Somebody’… which wouldn’t sound out of place in a 70s film. ‘I’d Have It Just The Way We Were’ has a lounge music sound but it is overshadowed by the great ‘Regina Holding Hands’ which is the best track on the album. White Denim then delivers a nice surprise. The sweet sound of ‘Syncn’ is unexpected but certainly welcome. White Denim will not appeal to all, but for those of us who enjoy experimental and alternative music then this is certainly a must-have. The one thing you can’t accuse White Denim of is not being original. | ![]() |
