:: The Whitest Boy Alive - RulesThe Whitest Boy AliveThe Whitest Boy Alive shocked the Indie world back in 2006 with their debut album ‘Dreams’. They shocked not only because it was so bloody good but because they were original. They had a sound all of their own and couldn’t be compared to anyone else. Now three years later they have dropped ‘Rules’ and album very different to ‘Dreams’ but still just as good. This one sees The Whitest Boy Alive really explore their electro/discotheque sound and seems to capture their live energy in a way that most groups could only dream. This mixture makes for one damn fine listen that certainly won’t disappoint even the most hardened music fan. This album explodes into life with the funky guitar of ‘Keep A Secret’ a track that mixes an indie-pop sound with rock lyrics, and then calms down with the smooth late night electronic sound of the relaxing ‘Intentions’. It is on ‘Courage’ that you realise that The Whitest Boy Alive still have a sound that is solely theirs while the funk bass of ‘Timebomb’ will have you wanting to dance. The short and sweet ‘Rollercoaster Ride’ will have you wanting to relax again and that mood will increase with the smooth ‘High On The Heels’. The discotheque sound that the boys promised is there for all to hear on ‘1517’ while ‘Gravity’ shows a serious side to the band… this is truly a song with feeling. ‘Promise Less Or Do More’ has a faster beat that sounds amazing coming out of your stereo and the funky guitar returns on ‘Dead End’. The album ends with another smooth gem, ‘Island’ which should make its way onto any Late Night Compilation you are looking to put together. The Whitest Boy Alive have truly proven that a change in sound isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The original sound of this unique band will enrapture you on just your first listen.
