‘Hydromajestik’ is the latest from ‘Wicked Beat Sound System’, the Sydney group known for blending and layering electronica, reggae and hip-hop to an intoxicating dance beat. Having already been nominated for three ARIA awards, ‘Wicked Beat Sound System’ continues to evolve. As well as a thumping use of bass, dashes of soul and Latin also filter through ‘Hydromajestik’ such as in ‘The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face’, that is as much a chill-out track as it is dance. This is thanks partly to the seductive voice of Linda Janssen who adds a whole other element to the song. The album successfully mixes a hybrid of influences and even those not big fans of electronica such as myself can find something to enjoy.
