:: Wicked City - With WingsWicked CityA band once described as ‘one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets’ most likely won’t be as secret with the release of their new album ‘With Wings’. It’s hard to see them remaining a secret after the release of such a great album… the only complaint you can make about it is the fact that it only has eight tracks on it. Any true rock fan will listen to opening track ‘Chimey’ and instantly fall in love with this trio. Their skill is there for all to hear on ‘Disco’… a track that showcases their instrumental talent while conjuring up that classic alternative rock sound that makes this genre so excited to listen to. ‘Turn Around’ is noisy and brutal… the way rock should be while ‘Creedence’ takes you back to the sound that silverchair produced on their ‘Frogstomp’ album. ‘She Burns’ is faster paced with a little bit of punk hidden just under the surface. The punk sound continues on ‘Sunshine’ which is pure 90’s Melbourne Pub Punk while ‘Provider’ finds some full on punk vocals with a great melody brought in to dull the brashness. Final track ‘Guard Dogs’ sees a much mellower side of Wicked City coming through. Despite being just eight tracks in length ‘With Wings’ will win over any true rock fan. This is a classic rock band in the making, a delight to listen you and a reminder just how good rock can sound. | ![]() |
