:: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs fit snugly somewhere in between futuristic techno dance, adolescent angst and just simple in your face rock and roll. Their sound is definitely theirs and theirs only and it's much of the same on their new album It's Blitz. An altogether fun, synth-heavy and electric album, It's Blitz is an addictive mix of psychedelic dance beats and glitched-up rock anthems. “Zero” kicks off the frivolities with its very synthesised bassline and Karen O's humming vocals before slowly climbing into a non stop explosive chorus of trumpets, tenor saxophones and more of that kaleidoscopic synthesizer. “Heads Will Roll” turns up the heat with its surprisingly mellow and poetic melody. Set to become a dance-floor hit, “Heads Will Roll” flows from a throbbing electronica beat to a hypnotic and melancholic bridge and back again: a perfect showcase of O's incredible vocal range. The promise of endless dancing is momentarily put aside by “Soft Shock,” as the album winds down from its sugar high. A really sweet lullaby of harps and electric guitar, “Soft Shock” sweeps you up in a calm that is only pierced by O occasionally screaming “shock! shock!” But fear not, this haunting and dark mood doesn't kill the buzz for long and “Dragon Queen” starts the party again…this time with a deliciously alternative vibe. Once again the synthesizer is the centre of attention here but its reign is challenged by some very sharp guitar hooks and a pulsating drum beat. It's Blitz finishes the night with a cool ballad that is very reminiscent of the morning after. Relaxed and almost regretful, “Little Shadow” is the perfect end to what is simply a beautiful album. More than just dance or rock, It's Blitz is music with soul, with depth and with enough hits to make it a truly spectacular listen.
