:: The Youngsters - The Army Of 1.0The YoungstersThis is a very subtle, subdued album from Frenchmen Olivier Mateau and Gil Le Gamin. Beginning from the opening track “Opening Theme”, which is subtle in its drum ‘n’ bass treatment, it captures a certain atmosphere to set the listener off on the right track. A single released from this album, “Place, Race & Face” is a terrific track for its uptempo manifestation. It has everything you need in terms of beats, noises, and distorted vocals. Then, there is the ambience of “Confidential Music”, with its haunting vocals and jazzy keyboard, and the soul of “The Pink Socks”. Jazz and synth elements are well combined throughout and another highlight track “Mellotron” uses beats and synths to create a beautifully, moody house track. With a cruisier “Southern Sulphuric”, the album can breathe again before more electro forays. This is certainly one album that should be discovered for its wide-ranging dance elements and that emphasises the quality and professionalism of these French artists. This is highly recommended. |
