:: The Slim Dusty Movie

I have to admit I had a bit of a chuckle when I received this movie to review. I’m also very happy to admit, that by the end of viewing and listening I am a total Slim Dusty convert. The movie itself is a great snapshot of Slim’s life, from humble beginnings playing on local radio as a young boy, to travelling around Australia with his family band playing countless road stops and town halls. Slim seemed to be the embodiment of all things uniquely Australian, the “have a go” attitude, the rough and tender sensibility and a determined pioneer spirit, willing to do what it takes to play his music to as many people as possible. Slim and his band played in places no one else would even bother to visit. He gave the people music, and the people loved him for it.

The Slim Dusty Movie package is filled with special features, including interviews, behind the scenes, featurettes and the movies original trailer. The package also includes the two disc movie soundtrack, so you relive all your favourite musical moments from the film. It may not be to everybody’s taste given it’s as country as an akubra hat and a cattle dog, but most will be charmed by its heartfelt honesty and wonderful simplicity. This is more than a music video, it’s a piece of Australian history.
