Final release 3 day tickets - $199 + booking fee **************************************************************** With less than two weeks to go till festival goers descend on the sunny banks of the Hawkesbury River at Del Rio Resort, artists from the banging 2010 Playground Weekender line-up dig deep into their dress up boxes and share their inspiration for Australia’s largest fancy dress party! Q. Saturday night is Playground's fancy dress night - will you be getting dressed up? If not, what's the best fancy dress outfit you've ever seen? ORBITAL Phil Hartnoll: “I think I’d go as Harry Tuttle (Google him) Best I’ve ever seen? A particularly mad Elvis.” OK GO Dan Konopka: “Personally I won't, but I believe our bassist, Tim Nordwind isn't afraid to put on glitter and a boa - he'll put the “fancy” in your party.” MARK FARINA: Do I have to wear a dress? Never DJ'd in one… EWAN PEARSON: “I haven't thought about it yet, but last year I was lucky enough to be given a Care Bear outfit from Japan to wear which was fun - I bounded up to Keith from Optimo while he was DJing as Sunshine Bear and it took him about five minutes to work out who it was.” CAMERAS Fraser Harvey: “I have a penchant for capes and pirate shirts, so probably a combination of the two.” What Do You Love About Australia? ORBITAL: “The didgeridoos, the people, the space, the weather, the countryside, the cities, the sea and the crazy wildlife… But I hate the spiders” OK GO: “I love the quality of dairy products in Australia” MARK FARINA: “The people” EWAN PEARSON: “I'm lucky enough to have met some amazing people so I would say, the friends I have there. It feels like a home from home” Which acts are you looking forward to seeing at Playground Weekender? ORBITAL: “Bjorn Again, Jamie Lidell, Polyphonic Spree and Gui Boratto. In that order.” OK GO: “Really looking forward to seeing Orbital!” MARK FARINA: “Lupe Fiasco, Jamie Lidell, Nickodemus, Charles Webster, Vincenzo” EWAN PEARSON: “Well I'm a bit biased, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Lost Valentinos play a festival crowd. Should be great!” MR DORIS: “Lupe Fiasco, because it's such a rare treat to have him on any line up outside of the States - that dude is a lyrical genius. DJ wise - It's got to be Mark Farina - his Mushroom Jazz compilations have been a great inspiration to me. Also , the Motherfucking Gaslamp Killer. I played with this chap in London last year but never got to chat properly - crazy crazy sounds.” CAMERAS: “I hate meeting bands I love cause I have a tendency to fan out on them.. But C'mon, Johnny Marr is going to be there for fuck's sake. Prepare yourself for an awkward conversation, Mr. Marr…” What Are Your Survival Tips For A Four-Day Music Festival? ORBITAL: EWAN PEARSON: “Insect repellant, sunglasses and the key to a chalet with air conditioning - I'm a bit old to rough it these days…” MR DORIS: “Mobile phone (hopefully there will be reception), water & possibly a tent would help. Survival tips? Drink loads of water, eat well, use sun-screen & pace yourself.” CAMERAS: “I'm terrible at packing, and always do it at the absolute last minute. I'm also not much of a camper, so my list is probably going to comprise of things I've seen in movies (Chevy Chase's National Lampoon films to be precise): A station wagon that has wood panelling along the outsides, a John Candy cameo, and finally, a wacky series of events that build to an outcome we can all learn something from.” |
