:: Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) - Prince Of Wales Hotel, St.Kilda - April 2008

Much like the multi-coloured balloons which CSS had for stage decoration, likewise was their performance, bright and energetic. Singer LoveFoxx, renowned for her wacky costumes - often lycra - was no exception to the rule; her outfit as interesting as her onstage antics, including stage diving.

With six members, the group had no problems achieving a full sound with three guitars, keyboards and drums. Even more interesting was the group’s ability to multi-task and swap instruments. For the last song of the evening the drummer played guitar and the keyboardist played drums. The lead guitarist also plays the cowbell and keyboards. This is indicative of CSS, they are very diverse and this makes for an interesting performance. Such was their ability to motivate the crowd that it definitely wasn’t a gig where patrons stood still. It was undoubtedly hits such as Let’s make Love and Listen to Death from Above, Alala and Music is My Hot Hot Sex which triggered the crowd and encouraged endless dancing.

Midway through the set Lovefoxx declared the band had a surprise for guests, especially from Brazil, and proceeded to crunch up Saladas, [didn’t know they were Brazilian] and throw them into the audience, not so surprising an endeavour considering the rest of the spontaneity of the performance!
