:: Twisted tunes and a remarkable tale - Central Station Records celebrates 30 years of pure DANCE

By: Suzanne Calla

Central Station Records held an exclusive party at Sydney’s World Bar to celebrate 30 years of pure DANCE earlier this month.

Until early hours loyal employees, first customers - not to mention some of the nations best DJ’s - and of course founder of the label, Giuseppe Palumbo (or Joe as everyone calls him) and his team partied the night away in a twisted atmosphere filled with lemon spirits and some of the greatest beats the world has heard.

It was a milestone occasion for all who attended and marked the launch of the official Central Station DVD, celebrating 30 years of dance in Australia. The documentary delves into the history of the label, not to mention all it has endured and overcome. Most importantly, it signifies what CSR has inspired, that is, an entirely new generation of music and a unique culture for all who succumb to its infectious beats.

After thanking guests and sharing drinks with favourite DJ’s and fans, Joe gave a speech in his thick Italian accent giving a brief, personal insight into his experience and the risks he took for the tunes he loves, “My forte was always in the dance music, in the beat. I always felt more joyous and happy with the beat, the drums,” he said.

Joe reminded guests of some of the unforgettable songs which made a mark so strong years ago; songs played, re-recorded and remixed to this day. Special mention must be made to the labels first number one dance hit, Here’s Johnny by Hocus Pocus followed by the dance remix of Total Eclipse of the Heart by Nikki French. These songs were released after a partnership was made between CSR and Melbourne’s Shock Records and their reception was unprecedented.

The DVD was then played in full and guests were left pondering the amazing tale of CSR, and the memories of the first vinyl record or dance CD they bought (most realising they still bop along to the tune to this day!)

Central Station Records, its music, its culture and its ethics have become a lifestyle for many dance fanatics over the world and its influence is certain to rein for another 30 years to come!

To commemorate this occasion, CSR launched a brand new website. Features include audio/visual sampling, downloads, events guide, CSR member benefits, ticket sales, industry gossip and much more.
