:: Cyndi Boste at the Corner Hotel, Richmond - August 04By: Adrian RinginI turned up to see a very show put on by Cyndi Boste in support of her new album, ‘Scrambled Eggs’. Instead of seeing a show of moshing madness of rabid punk rock fans, Boste’s audience was a far more sedate, relaxed, and much older crowd. It was a nice, relaxing evening. I’m not the biggest fan of country music in the world, but this was a good night. Boste, who had been burnt out by endless cover gigs in pubs, after putting out a few CDs of her own material, has progressed to covers again – the difference being that this time around she is performing songs of her own choosing – and has invited her friends along to help her out. Boste worked though the gig with the help of a rotating cast of said friends, on a very wide variety of stringed instruments; from lap steel to banjo, violin and mandolin and many more. By the end of the show, when all the musicians took the stage together, there were well over a dozen performers up there. Boste has an easy rapport and confidence before her audience, and the musicians seemed to be having fun. The crowd was sedate but seemed to have quite a nice night listening to Boste and her friends sing of love, loss, and life. |
