:: A Day on The Green - Poets Corner Winery, Mudgee - November 2005

By: Katie Stevenson

A Day On The Green at popular Mudgee winery Poets Corner was a huge success, with thousands turning out for a day of food, wine and song in the beautiful springtime sun on Saturday, November 19. The line up of Mia Dyson, Tim Rogers and the Temperance Union, Tony Joe White, and Pete Murray brought a touch of blues to this year's event.

The afternoon started with ARIA Award-winning blues artist Mia Dyson. Competing with the hot afternoon sun, Mia won herself a new audience with a truly soulful and entertaining show. Then came Tim Rogers and The Temperance Union. Showing he is still one of Australia’s best live performers, former You Am I front man Tim rocked out with his new band, appearing with a bandanna and a strange Birmingham accent. The Union’s first song signalled the start of the afternoon sun shower, but the rain didn’t last long and the crowd’s spirits were in no way dampened. Former You Am I fans proved to be delighted with Tim’s new sound.

International blues legend Tony Joe White brought his swampy deep south soul to Mudgee, matching the somewhat humid conditions. His set inspired a few deep south style dances, and no doubt a few such conversations as well.

The crowd favourite proved to be headliner Pete Murray, who thrilled the crowd with his honey drizzled vocals just on sunset. Pete played the best of both his albums and looked truly happy to be performing to an appreciative country crowd who were more than happy to sing along. The highlight was definitely the encore, with Pete bringing the best of the old and the new with See The Sun’s debut single Better Days and a solo version of Feeler’s So Beautiful.

A Day On The Green again proved to be one of the best days out of the year, and again the rumours of next years act have begun already, with suggestions that perhaps Bernard Fanning or The Finn Brothers could be making an appearance in wine country in 2006.
