:: Electric Empire album launch - Red Bennies, South Yarra - March 2010
By: Carmine Pascuzzi
Heavily influenced by the raw sounds of the late 60s and early 70s soul music revolution, Electric Empire is the new creation of accomplished singer, songwriter and producer, Dennis Dowlut, founding member of electronic outfit Disco Montego, who enjoyed significant chart success with “Beautiful” and “Magic” featuring Katie Underwood and “U Talking To Me?”.
Dennis’ personal and musical journey is very much reflected in Electric Empire’s material, an authentic, melodic blend of early rhythm & blues and jazz that defies traditional labeling, but which the band refer to as “soul searching” music. This new venture is dedicated to Dennis' late brother Darren who died from cancer in 2005.
Red Bennies, a lush cabaret venue, hosted the special showcase by Electric Empire. 300 guests filled the new venue to witness the band. The gig was so well received dozens of albums were sold after the gig. Guests Zoe Badwi, Juno Roxas and Andrew De Silva revelled in the performance.
