:: Emma Dean - The Toff In Town, Melbourne - May 2009By: Carmine PascuzziIn a theatrical-like setting, Melbourne‘s Toff In Town hosted a charismatic performance by Brisbane singer-songwriter Emma Dean. Prior to commencing her show, Emma unveiled her newest video clip 'Real Life Computer Game’ and it is a well produced and colourful clip. It didn't take too long for her stage presence to then be the centre of attention as she proceeded to demonstrate her fine musicianship. She has eye-catching appeal for her vocal ability and general persona. Tonight's performance showcased a “scaled down” three-piece band with piano, drums and cello on display. It looked classy, and Emma and her accompanying musicians delivered in spades. Most tracks came from her latest record, as well as a couple of old favourites. It was very entertaining. Emma has a sultry and endearing musical personality; very focused on what messages she gives and singing with total authority. She can change the tempo very cohesively. The lasting impression is of a performer who can spark up the room, lift spirits, and captivate audiences with her passion and charm. Her vocal range is sublime and the witty rapport with the audience made the night most enjoyable. |
