:: The Go Team - Corner Hotel - August 2005By: Mark RasmussenOn yet another particularly cold and miserable winter's night, I headed over to the Corner Hotel to take in UK act, The Go Team. My mood was somewhat sour before arriving after watching my beloved Cats put in an insipid performance to lose to the Bombers of all teams. The Bombers! Thank God then for the Go Team and their energetic, on stage antics. My spirits were soon lifted and the game forgotten (almost) as the crowd went mental, urged on by Ninja, the lead singer of this impressive six-piece. Her vibrant personality really shook off the winter chill as she was able to get an incredibly appreciative and packed corner crowd chanting, “Go-g-g-go!… "Team-t-t-team!” to waving their arms about in unison. It's no wonder they were able to easily sell out their two Corner shows. Playing virtually all the songs from their brilliant ‘Thunder, Lightning Strike’, it was hard not to be impressed with the urgency, the dancing, the two drummers, the energy, the enthusiasm but most of all, the fun they seemed to be having. Much like our own The Avalanches before them, The Go Team‘s music is about putting together sounds, noises etc and adding various eclectic ideas and concepts to create some rather unique and exciting music. The best songs were 'Junior Kickstart’ and ‘Ladyflash’, as they made the crowd go insane as they danced and shook their bodies in a very crazy fashion. As I strode out into the icy air, the buzz created by The Go Team stuck fast in my mind and although they weren't able to change the footy result, I dually appreciated their enthusiasm and music. |
