:: Keri Noble live at Dizzy’s Jazz Bar, Melbourne - August 04

By: Natalie Andrews

Recently, I was invited to attend a brief and intimate performance by Keri Noble. She played half a dozen songs from her new album ‘Fearless’ at Dizzy’s Jazz Bar in Melbourne, and it was a lovely show.

Keri sat at her piano and began to sing, and the first thing I picked up on was that the music was entirely her own. She has a very genuine attitude when performing and even the tracks on ‘Fearless’ sound like a live show.
Vocally she is rich in emotion, and although her songs are all gentle ballads they are very personal and you might compare her sounds to that of Sarah McLachlan.

She performed several tracks from her album, as well as covers from well-known entertainers such as Elton John. Keri received a great reaction from her small audience; she spoke to us occasionally and we responded enthusiastically to her smiles and agreeable nature.

Noble is a singer/songwriter that grew up in Detroit USA as daughter to a pastor in a Spanish speaking Baptist church. Her musical talents have been nurtured through this Christian and Gospel music which is evident in her style of singing. She wields a raw husk that makes you think of country music and although the lyrics are simple, they are also charming.

Her music is conventional and appealing, although it is not outstanding it is lovely to sit back to and appreciate. The title track being released as a single ‘Talk to Me’ is one you may hear playing on the radio, and her other songs do not deviate too far from that kind of music. Her tunes are melodic and modest, an album that is definitely worth checking out for mild background music and an artist who is also a great live performer.
