:: Mirror House Antics - Birmingham Hotel, Melbourne - May 2009By: Sabine BrixUnfortunately, as it was the first night of residency for these boys, the place wasn’t as packed as it could have been, but I am sure, that, in the following weeks, it will be, as word gets out about these talents from the Mornington Peninsula. For such a young band, i.e. one member is still in high school, they have done extremely well, already scoring a residency. Their set was packed with energy, songs are catchy, full of solid guitar riffs, fast drums and spanning a long list of influences, namely, the Artic Monkeys, the Libertines. They are interesting to watch, especially bass player Rory Heane and the way he bops around. New single Into The Dark was available on the night and is a bass driven track with chiming guitars. The bassist is furiously fast with his fingers, and provides a lot of drive for many of the tracks. The Lost Boy when it is finally released, should, undoubtedly, do well. It’s something a bit different with a Californian-ish surf-style guitar opener and cow bell interludes. Mirror House Antics will, I suspect, be around for some time to come |
