Back in 1982 APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) held its first ever APRA Music Awards. Back then, as they remain today, the APRA Music Awards were dedicated to honouring Australian composers and songwriters – the people who create the music.

On this momentous night 25 years ago, five Gold Awards were presented to a bright cast of artists – Graham Goble for Reminiscing, Graham Russell for the hugely popular Lost In Love, Glenn Shorrock for Cool Change, the immensely successful Vanda & Young for Love Is In The Air and the then kings of Aussie rock, ACDC for Highway To Hell.

The significance of these songs is reflected by the fact that Love Is In The Air and Highway To Hell are nominated (yet again!) in 2007 for the Most Performed Australian Work Overseas - 25 years after they first won gongs at the inaugural APRA Music Awards.

This year APRA is proud to join with the Australian music industry to celebrate the most successful songwriters of this year plus the 25th Anniversary of the APRA Music Awards and the past quarter century of great Australian songwriting and composing.

The celebrated SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR, the TED ALBERT AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICES TO AUSTRALIAN MUSIC and the BREAKTHROUGH SONGWRITER AWARD are decided by APRA’s Board of Writer and Publisher Directors.
Winners will be announced at the 2007 APRA Music Awards on June 5 at the Melbourne Town Hall.

The 2007 APRA Music Awards will again be hosted by the irrepressible Jonathan Biggins and will feature stunning live performances and special guest presenters.
