:: Spotlight :: Jack Awards 2005By: Carmine PascuzziSydney’s Seymour Centre let its hair down and played host to the 2nd annual Jack Awards - celebrating the Australian Live Music industry - on May 10, 2005. A packed theatre of close to 900 guests, members of the music and entertainment industry, gathered to witness who the Australian public voted as Australia’s finest for the past twelve months. With over 110,000 votes cast via the on-line voting site (www.thejackawards.com) and via SMS, it’s clear the Australian live music scene is crackling with passion, energy and innovation and continues to set world standards. Eskimo Joe, who performed on the night, took the honour of Best Live Band against last year’s winner Powderfinger, hot favorites Jet, Dallas Crane, The Casanovas and Wolfmother. Best Male went to Phil Jamieson from Grinspoon, and Katy Steele, Litle Birdy lead singer, took away Best Female. Best Newcomer went to Missy Higgins. The night featured a swag of celebrity guests and presenters including Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, here especially for the night, and Chris Joannou from Silverchair. Highlights included performances by The Living End, Spiderbait for their last Australian performance, Eskimo Joe, and The Cops as well as an All Star Jam formed exclusively for The Jack Awards Ceremony featuring Katy Steele (from Little Birdy), Andy Strachan (from The Living End), Ben Ely (from Regurgitator), and Justin Burford and Rodney Aravena (from End Of Fashion).
