:: Spotlight :: 2012 Jagermeister Independent Music Awards

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Presented and produced by The Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), the seventh Annual JAGERMEISTER INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS will be held on Tuesday October 16 for the second year running at Revolt art space in Kensington.

Along with presenting partner Jagermeister, this event is proudly supported by Nova Radio and airline partner Virgin Australia, and will once again reward the country’s highest achieving independent artists across all genres.

Now in their seventh year, The JAGERMEISTER INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS is an opportunity for Australian labels, artists and the Industry at large to celebrate the successes of some of the country’s most vibrant and eclectic artists. With a diverse pool of representatives voting this year, from online media, music press, broadcasters, independent music industry representatives and artists themselves, the results will truly reflect the opinions of the collective Independent Music scene. With yet another extraordinary year for Independent Artists unfolding, from the global success of Gotye, The Jezabels, and The Temper Trap, to local domination by artists such as Lanie Lane, The Bamboos and Husky, the 2012 crop of Artists look set to raise the bar even higher.

Awards to be presented during the evening include Best Independent Dance / Electronic Release, Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Release and Best Independent Hard Rock/Punk Release among others. 2012 also sees the addition of a new category for Best Australian Independent Label, which is an award that recognises the amazing companies that make Independent music in Australia what it is. Voted for by their Record Label peers, this award goes to the essence of what AIR is about.

Once again the Awards will be staged in the 500 capacity room at Revolt, a venue recognised as one of Melbourne’s finest performing Art Spaces. This truly unique venue was last year’s first time home to what’s been remembered as one of the most exciting and intimate JAGERMEISTER INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS to date. Plans for this year’s production promise to deliver an even more unforgettable event.

Nominees must have material released between August 1 2011 and July 31 2012, and the recording must be owned by the artist, or by an entirely Australian owned Independent Record Label.
