The nominations for the 2007 MTV Australia Video Music Awards are: SPANKIN’ NEW ARTIST BEST ROCK VIDEO BEST MALE ARTIST BEST GROUP BEST HIP HOP VIDEO BEST DANCE VIDEO VIEWER’S CHOICE AWARD – AUSTRALIA SEXIEST VIDEO BEST POP VIDEO BEST FEMALE ARTIST DOWNLOAD OF THE YEAR BEST HOOK-UP VIDEO OF THE YEAR VIDEO VANGUARD AWARD ALBUM OF THE YEAR ******************************************************************* **Post-event wrap** 2007 MTV Australia Video Music Awards Quite literally a who’s who (as in - who the hell is that on the red carpet with boobs and legs in ample view and why don’t they just go back to wannabe castle with all the others and let the actual musicians through?) of Australian and overseas music talent, trickled down the red carpet one by one. Some were kind enough to stop for a moment to sign autographs for fans who had been lined up for hours to catch a peak of their favourite stars. Others, not to mention any names, “fergiliciously” and “richly” raced down the carpet like the 100 metre sprint and whizzed into the safety of their prime positioned tables inside. God forbid they should speak with the media. Gossip “Queen” Perez Hilton was quick to lay on his usual cheek and banter when he stopped to mention “I might get in trouble already but I heard that Nicole Richie is being a little bit difficult - I heard that she didn’t want to do a dress rehearsal”. Beautiful Abby Cornish looked resplendent and was ever so pleasant when speaking with us on the carpet and mentioned that next up for her was to go and live in New York for a while, for herself, not for work. Abby said that she planned to “paint” while she was there and would be hanging out with one of her friends who she quoted was an “amazing artist”. The ever bubbling Veronica poppets were out and about to get there new fashion line in the public view - their line is said to be available through Target – in Stella McCartney style – who would have ever thought Target would become so trendy? The girls were delighted to be back home and had been spending time with family, enjoying BBQs and “chilling out:” Lisa revealed her crush on Dean Guyer “He's so gorgeous - I have a massive crush but I think every girl in Australia wants to go out with him," which put the wheels in motion for a whole lot of gossip column action in the weeks to come – it has just been revealed that they have announced they are a couple – nothing like a bit of proclamation to the press to get the ball rolling. Reps for Lisa at Warner Music have confirmed that Dean and Lisa are in fact a couple! Pink won two awards for best female artist and download of the year and put on a “high-flying” performance to open the awards – performing aerial acrobatics high above the audience. Fergie, the Black Eyed Peas member and self proclaimed “Princess” helped out with the hosting and put in a sexy performance whilst also taking home the award for sexiest video for Fergalicious. Actor turned singer, Jared Letto and his band 30 Seconds to Mars, who won best rock video and video of the year – were overjoyed to be down under “We are just super, super excited to be in Australia, we have been talking about this trip for about six months now and we are just so happy that things are going well for us here for our very first tour of Australia”. He continued to say that “We are just really grateful to have had an opportunity to do what we are doing - to tour and make music together and share that experience is a gift and we are just really grateful”. Paulini, of Australian Idol fame, dared to step out in another gold dress - now we all remember “that” gold dress and the ever pleasant comments of the charming Dicko. Well lets just say its time to eat your words Dicko - Paulini looked smashing in a short gold dress that was styled and made especially for her by her stylist - we all love a “stick it to em story” and truly, she looked great! Good Charlotte said the words we wanted to hear when asked about their experience hosting the MTV Awards, “This was one of the funnest nights of my life - I thought hosting it was going to be really hard and stressful but it was fun!” They spoke of the friendships they had made since coming to Australia, “We have a lot of friends here now and it has been great just to hang out and have a good time - so it was like the most laid back awards show we’ve ever been too” - got to love that laid back Aussie charm!!! They spoke of their joking around with Fergie on stage about being “kissed down under” but reassured us not to worry because Fergie “is a really classy lady” - tounge in cheek perhaps? The boys mentioned they were hoping to return to Australia in August for a Good Morning Revival tour and added that they were “huge fans of Steve Irwin”. Benji Madden, who is engaged to our very own Sophie Monk is keen to set up life in Australia - “I am most definitely going to try my hardest to become an Australian citizen because I think you people might take this place for granted because you live here, but when you don’t live here and you come here, it’s like paradise and you should really appreciate Australia because it is the most amazing place in the world and I that’s not just something I say in every country - I definitely want to live here - I always have since we came the first time in 2000”. Girlfriend Nicole Richie, who looked glamorous and even tinier in real life presented the award for best male artist, which was won by none other than our own Shannon Noll for the third year running. Dear, sweet, gullible Nicole looked very silly on stage when she pronounced Shannon’s name – “Shaa – non.” In the media room, Joel confessed he played a trick on her, “I was actually the one that told her to say that - honey, say Shaa-non, trust me”. Aussie Rock legends Silverchair took home the inaugural Video Vanguard Award – kind of like a hall-of-fame entry – for a band or artist whose music has made a lasting impact on the MTV generation. All in all the show had MTV branded all over it – and with the lack of Snoop Dog, a major let down for fans and MTV executives, the night held up quite well with great performances from the international counterparts (and not so great from locals – Stephanie Macintosh had a bit of a shocker). A selection of sexy stars and a multitude of “who was that” wannabes provided for a relatively interesting night. Not too bad. But not that good. That’s my tip. |
