Iconic rock guitarist Slash is set to jet into Australia to perform exclusively at the highly anticipated launch of new music channel MTV Classic. He will headline the live music extravaganza, entitled MTV Classic: The Launch, as part of a celebration of the classic music and artists that have shaped an MTV generation. With the dial firmly set on music from the 80’s through to the 00’s, MTV Classic: The Launch will see Slash jamming classic Guns ‘N’ Roses songs as well as tracks from his upcoming debut solo album ‘Slash’ with some of Australia’s finest musicians.

Commented Rebecca Batties, GM, Music Brands, MTV Networks Australia & New Zealand, "Music is at the heart of MTV Classic…and who better to launch a channel devoted to iconic tracks and artists than one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, Slash. We’re excited to be staging MTV Classic: The Launch in Melbourne – a city with major music heritage – and Slash’s performance will be an explosive start – and, no doubt, a defining moment – for MTV Classic and our audience.”

Coinciding with the launch of MTV Classic is Slash’s eponymously-titled first solo album, ‘Slash,’ which is set for release in Australia on April 2. The album features the who's who of music industry talent including collaborations with Fergie, Ian Astbury, Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock and Australia’s own Andrew Stockdale to name a few.

Slash is widely considered one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time. He has received countless accolades and awards including a 2007 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside his idols Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. An original member of iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses, Slash helped the band create signature sounds like the guitar riff of #1 hit “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Welcome To The Jungle.” The band dominated the 1980s and ‘90s music scene selling more than 100 million albums worldwide and ushered in a decade of hard charging rock music. After the band’s break-up, Slash went on to critical acclaim in his personal project Slash’s Snakepit, and global success with supergroup Velvet Revolver. He has been widely sought after by the biggest musicians of all time, performing with everyone from Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder to Ray Charles. Slash is one of the marquee playable characters in Guitar Hero III, has two signature Gibson guitars in his name, and authored his own top-selling biography Slash in 2007.

MTV Classic is a 24-hour music television channel designed specifically to showcase classic contemporary music and artists. Aimed at 25-40 year old Australian music lovers, MTV Classic will complement MTV’s flagship music channel, MTV Australia, with a music and music-inspired entertainment format centered on artists, music genres and programming from the 80s to the 00s. Home to back catalogue and current hits of international artists such as Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Michael Jackson and Prince, alongside iconic Australian acts from the same period including INXS, Powderfinger and Silverchair, MTV Classic will also broadcast acclaimed MTV music-inspired series including MTV Unplugged, Behind the Music, Storytellers and The Osbournes and artist footage from the MTV archives. MTV Classic will launch on May 1, 2010 at 5.00pm on Foxtel and Austar.

MTV Classic: The Launch will take place at the Palace Theatre, 20-30 Bourke Street, Melbourne on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 and will be broadcast on MTV Classic as the channel goes live on Saturday May 1 at 5.00pm. The Red Carpet will commence at 6:30pm and the show will begin at 8:00pm.

**Update as at April 13**

It’s been 18 years since the pair has shared a gig, but now Rose Tattoo frontman, Angry Anderson will rejoin his friend and iconic rock guitarist Slash on stage for the spectacular one-off event ’MTV Classic: The Launch’, to be held on April 28 at Melbourne’s Palace Theatre.

Speaking about the long awaited reunion Slash said, “Angry and I go way back to when Guns ‘N’ Roses toured with Rose Tattoo in Australia back in 1992 - and had some great times - so when MTV asked me who I wanted to perform with at the launch of MTV Classic, I immediately thought of Angry. I‘m really looking forward to playing 'Nice Boys’ with him at this historic event."

A massive fan of Rose Tattoo since the early 80s, Slash and his band-mates were inspired by their refreshing and brutally honest Aussie-rock sound, and Guns ‘N’ Roses subsequently covered the Rose Tattoo anthem ‘Nice Boys’.

When asked about reuniting with his old mate, Angry was nothing but complementary about the man he so obviously respects, “It’s a beautiful thing when you get an opportunity to jam with an artist who has made such a global impact on rock music in your home town. I have a lot of time for Slash and ‘MTV Classic: The Launch’ will see us re-creating some of those great music moments from the 90s.”
