:: Spotlight :: WAVE AID - Tsunami Relief Concert at the Sydney Cricket Ground

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Another massive effort is being organised by the Australian music community in support of the projects to raise funds for the Tsunami disaster victims.

This is WAVE AID, a major concert event with over eight hours of music.
The Australian music spectacular will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, January 29 from 2.00pm - 10.30pm.

Such an unprecedented event has sparked one of Australia's all time favourite live bands into action for the evening as MIDNIGHT OIL join in to do their bit as part of this massive Australian music fundraiser. WAVEAID will also feature live sets by POWDERFINGER, whose performance will be on the back of a sold out Hordern Pavilion and the Sydney Big Day Out as well as JOHN BUTLER TRIO, KASEY CHAMBERS, THE WAIFS, THE FINN BROTHERS, MISSY HIGGINS, PETE MURRAY and for their first Australian performance in two years SILVERCHAIR .

The WAVEAID concert will also premiere THE WRIGHTS (featuring members of Jet, The Living End, Grinspoon, Powderfinger, Spiderbait, You Am I & Dallas Crane) performing Stevie Wright's classic Australian hit Evie Parts I, II and III.

And last, but certainly not least, we proudly announce the inclusion of NICK CAVE to the WAVE AID concert.

To ensure that maximum money is raised, all those involved in staging this event, including the bands, management, promoters and publicists are donating their time free of charge.

Tickets are only $58.00* plus booking fee and will go on sale Monday, January 17 at 9.00am from Ticketek or Tel: 02 9266 4800

Ticketek is donating back all profits from booking fees and charges.

*WAVEAID plays rain or shine, subject to extreme weather.
Artist line up is subject to change.
Gates open at 12.00 midday.

The WAVE AID Tsunami Relief concert featuring Midnight Oil, Powderfinger, Silverchair, John Butler Trio, The Wrights, The Finn Brothers, Kasey Chambers, Nick Cave, Missy Higgins, Pete Murray and The Waifs, scheduled for Saturday, January 29 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, went on sale this morning to unprecedented demand.

By 12 noon over 34,500 tickets had been snapped up through Ticketek. A further 3,000 travel packages have been sold through Showbiz and Pinpoint, and an industry allocation of 2,000 tickets has sold out. This brings the total tickets sold to just under 40,000 in three hours.

The organisers are assessing the staging layout to ensure sightlines are unimpeded for the patrons before releasing the FINAL batch of WAVEAID tickets. The availability of these tickets will be announced as soon as the sightline information is available, but it would be advisable to continue to check with Ticketek for the release of tickets. Private boxes are available by ringing the SCG direct on Ph 1800 885 555.

Michael Chugg, one of the concert producers, commented: “It was three weeks ago this Wednesday that the first call came through from the managers of the bands expressing their desire to stage a benefit concert. What has been achieved in those three weeks is a credit to all concerned. But we’re not finished yet. There will be more tickets available, but patrons safety and comfort is paramount before releasing those tickets.”

On behalf of the Australian music community, the event organisers would like to thank all Australian music lovers for their incredible generosity of spirit and their support of WAVEAID so far.

Organisers of The WAVEAID Tsunami Relief are pleased to announce that a limited amount of tickets will be made available for sale from 9.00am this Saturday, January 22 through Ticketek or telephone (02) 9266 4800.

After the huge demand experienced when the event went on sale last Monday, the staging and layout for the event has now been set, allowing the concert organisers to announce more seating available for those who may have missed out earlier this week. Please note these tickets are very limited.
