:: Danny Tenaglia back with double albumBy: Carmine PascuzziThere are few living dance music legends as globally renowned as New York’s Danny Tenaglia. With over 30+ years of dance floor expertise, Danny has carved an indelible mark on electronic dance music both past, present and future. After a six-year hiatus from releasing compilations, he is back with double-CD set Futurism. The single “The Space Dance,” the first new original music from Tenaglia since 2004, was inspired by his sets at Space, the Ibiza superclub where he will also hold down a weekly residency – his first ever on the island – throughout the summer. The adventurous, addictive Futurism captures the sounds that the beloved DJ/producer is playing right now. Featuring minimal tech grooves like “Filthy Phunk” (Shinedoe), “Rolling Brooklyn” (Luca Bacchetti), and “I Ment To Be Sharp” (Davide Squillace), the set is unmistakably of-the-moment. But unexpected explosions like “Tiir” (DJ Mosoga); haunting, disembodied vocals; and Tenaglia’s own secret samples bring the mix to deeper levels. It’s techy, it’s tribal, it’s twisted, yet somehow timeless: It’s unmistakably Danny. To date, Danny Tenaglia has travelled to over 28 countries, playing for crowds from 200 to 200,000. Clubbers report seemingly inhuman mixing capabilities, booth-to-floor telepathy, and the grittiest “modern yet classic” grooves they have ever heard come out of a speaker. The tale of Danny Tenaglia's love affair with music, and the world's subsequent romance with him, is one of the critical veins in the body of dance music. He is every dancer's secret discovery; a random purchase at the record store, a reluctant night out that unexpectedly turned magic. Tracklisting CD 1 CD 2 Danny Tenaglia's “Futurism” is out now through Tommy Boy/Stomp Records. |
