:: Little Red to launch youth homelessness appeal in MelbourneBy: Carmine PascuzziLittle Red take a break from their busy touring schedule to launch Anglicare Victoria‘s Streets and Lanes Appeal on Tuesday September 16. Anglicare Victoria is putting on a unique ’ laneway picnic‘ for 100 students in Melbourne's infamous AC/DC lane to launch the appeal and raise awareness of youth homelessness. Joining Little Red on the day will be Rockwiz’ Brian Nankervis as MC. The band jumped at the chance to be involved with such an important cause saying, “It's all of the great work Anglicare does with young people that really made us want to get involved in the Streets and Lanes Appeal. Making people aware of the problems many of Victoria's young people face is what it's about.” A soup kitchen will be handing out the food and providing an authentic taste of what it's like to be homeless in Melbourne while Anglicare Victoria youth workers talk with the students and answer questions about the issues facing young people today. Anglicare Victoria CEO, Dr Ray Cleary, said it's important to engage with young people and openly discuss the issues affecting them. He said, “Many of the students attending the picnic will know someone who is at risk of homelessness or they might be experiencing some form of family breakdown themselves. By having the opportunity to talk first hand with our youth workers and learn more about the types of support available to them and their friends, these young people are more likely to seek help before things get out of hand.” Anglicare Victoria provide a range of programs for young people including crisis accommodation, drug and alcohol counselling, case work, mentor programs, and emergency food parcels. Anglicare's Streets and Lanes Appeal commences at 1200pm on Tuesday, September 16 in AC/DC Lane To support the appeal please visit here or call 1800 809 722. Little Red continue touring throughout September on the following dates: 8 - Swindlers Bar (Mt Hotham)
