:: Major Major to release new EP

By: Carmine Pascuzzi

Melbourne indie band Major Major release their new EP ‘Great Leagues’ on November 1 and, to celebrate, will embark on an East Coast tour throughout November.

Major Major will unveil ‘Great Leagues’ at the Tote Hotel in Melbourne on Saturday, November 8, at Exquisite Corpse at the Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney on Thursday, November 13, and Ric’s Bar in Brisbane on Saturday, November 15.

Formed in 2006, Major Major have been busier than ever of late. After playing several east coast tours, performing at Essential Festival, playing a month-long residency at Melbourne rock institution The Tote, and touring with other local upstarts Yves Klein Blue, The John Steel Singers, Princess One Point Five, and Tragic/Athletic, the Melbourne based four piece have garnered a cult following along the east coast.

Recorded by Nao Anzai of Laura, whose credits include Because of Ghosts, Clinkerfield, The Night Terrors, and Princess One Point Five, Great Leagues was produced by Indra Adams and mastered in the USA by Roger Seibel (Pavement, Tegan and Sara).

Known for their energetic live shows and catchy, sing-and-clap-a-long tunes, Major Major’s sound is speckled with indie pop, alt-country, rock, and folk influences. This EP shows the transition from a pop inspired outfit in the vein of Weezer, Pavement and Superchunk to a mature, accomplished group forging their own sound.

‘The Beast’, the first single taken from Great Leagues, is an endearing tune with a quirky and infectious melody. Available for download on November 1 via iTunes, the epic four minute track jumps from luminous indie-pop sensibilities; to impassioned vocal balladry; to an indie-meets-alt-country guitar climax; and then back to heart-wrenching pop brilliance.

With band members returning from overseas jaunts especially to launch the EP, this November marks the next chapter for Major Major. Don’t miss them launch Great Leagues at a venue near you.

Great Leagues will be released independently on November 1, 2008.

First single ‘The Beast’ will be available for download via iTunes on November 1, 2008.
