:: Finalists announced for MTV Australia 'Kickstart'By: Carmine PascuzziWith 700 entries nationwide, MTV Networks Australia recently announced the top 5 local finalists for MTV Kickstart in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and the Gold Coast. The lucky finalists are set to fight city against city for the chance to ‘kickstart’ their music careers in a national battle of the bands. The overall winner is set to receive the Kickstart Grand Prize including $15,000 cash, introductions to Australian music label A&R departments, publicity support from MTV Australia and involvement in The MTV Red Carpet Show at the 2008 ARIA Awards broadcast on MTV on October 19 at 7:00pm. MTV Kickstart is an initiative to help aspiring and independent artists by giving them all the tools necessary to break into the music industry. In just over four weeks, the MTV Kickstart initiative attracted 700 entries from all over the country. The short-listed top 5 from each city were chosen by Street Press Australia Editors, Radio presenters from FBI, RRR, 4ZZZ, RTR, ThreeD and Radio Metro and MTV Networks Executives. The chosen bands from each city will perform at a local venue in front of a live audience at an event hosted by MTV and MC’d by the channel’s music aficionado, VJ and host of ‘The Lair’, Darren McMullen. On the night of each event a winner will be selected from the local heat. On September 9, 2008 the finalists from each city will head to Sydney to battle it out one last time during a televised, ‘Kickstart Final’, to be held at iconic MTV venue, ‘The Lair’. Each city’s finalist will be posted on the MTV Kickstart website where locals can get behind their artist by voting online at www.mtv.com.au/kickstart. Voting will commence on September 15 and will be open until October 10, 2008. The MTV Kickstart winner will be announced live online on October 15 at 8:00pm. Polo Club will continue on as the Victorian representative at the Kickstart Grand Final to be held in Sydney on September 9, 2008. Held at local hotspot Miss Libertine, the Melbourne duo, Producer/MC Urban Monk and Producer Camelot the Cameleon, were voted the favourites by the panel of judges. Polo Club battled it out against Hoshi in the Clouds, Foxx on Fire, Complimentary Headsets and Greyhound Lane to take the winner’s crown. On September 9, 2008 the finalists from each city, will head to Sydney to battle city against city during a televised ‘Kickstart Final’ to be held at iconic MTV venue, ‘The Lair’.
